With a clean #energy economy, #Canada could see 700,000 more #jobs than in today's #FossilFuel based economy. This country needs to get itself out of its current #austerity.
Yes, oil jobs will be lost: those are dirty, dangerous jobs. Let them be replaced with cleaner safer jobs.

Steve Wozniak's 'AI - actual intelligence' wordplay drew applause from Grand Valley State University graduates, in sharp contrast to other 2026 US commencement speakers (Schmidt, Caulfield, Borchetta) who were booed after mentioning AI.

Is AI going to displace human labor, and what's the consequence if it does? Daron Acemoglu, MIT Institute Professor and 2024 Nobel laureate, makes the case in this 37-min interview: AI is being pushed to replace workers rather than augment them, productivity gains aren't showing up in firms adopting it, the bubble looks real and macro-fragile, and getting AI's direction wrong may shape liberal democracy's future.
boostedWired: Meta Employees Are Scrambling to Use Up Benefits Ahead of Layoffs
On the eve of about 8,000 jobs being cut, employees are cashing in on headphone stipends and other perks while they still can.
"...Two employees describe a widespread rush to use up an annual $2,000 flexible benefit, which can cover a variety of expenses including health and wellness activities. A separate triennial credit of $200 toward the purchase of audio gear has led to a scramble to purchase Apple AirPods and other headphones. Another source says Meta offices have been largely empty this week, as people prioritize polishing their résumés and gather offsite to commiserate with friends for what may be their final time as colleagues. Employees are variously “paralyzed,” “coasting,” and “panicked,” sources say...."
"Developers talk not just about how the #AI output is often flawed, but that using AI to get the #job done is often a more time consuming, harder, and more frustrating experience because they have to go through the output and fix its mistakes. More concerning, developers who use AI at work report that they feel like they are de-skilling themselves and losing their ability to do their #jobs as well as they used to."

#Meta to cut 10% of staff as it pours billions into #AI
Meta said Thursday it plans to lay off roughly 10% of its workforce, or about 8,000 people, the latest in a string of #tech industry #layoffs fueled in part by #ArtificialIntelligence.
The company is also closing around 6,000 open roles, Janelle Gale, Meta’s chief people officer, wrote in a memo published by Bloomberg.
The layoffs will go into effect on May 20.

What job do you think might need all those skills? What are the contractual terms? And what is the rate of pay?

So it's not about cars or EVs or jobs.
It's just plain old stupid racism, Doug.
