or generally, if your company does something interesting or does something boring in an interesting way (crud web apps make me regret learning programming) please send job offers my way

i primarily know rust, css and html (NOT any framework nonsense, though i could be convinced to work in vue) and am learning cobol for the fun of it rn (though im not productive with that, i'm probably one of the few <50yo devs interested in it at all ;p)

i dont have a cv currently but people generally tell me i am good at code things, and if never having used AI voluntarily is a positive for your company, please hire me

please send student/part time full remote job offers my way thank you

hey so this is probably completely pointless but: looking for a job (NZ or fully remote willing to hire a kiwi) in SRE, security, or linux/Unix system administration. 15 years expereince administering Linux and Unix boxes, intermediate level of experience working with docker compose and containerisation and container security. No prior job experience unfortunately, all those 15 years were mostly personal projects and small-scale stuff for friends. Currently running an entire multi-machine personal cloud infrastructure with a demonstration of all the services I have running at status.highenergymagic.net. Entirely willing to accept entry-level job placements, no expectation of being paid a lot or anything, just want to be doing something and move the needle a little on my current "being broke" status.

Please boost for reach, any job offers please DM me.

Hi! I'm a long term ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ contractor / freelancer looking for unix-adjacent work, either remote or in Melbourne 🇦🇺.

I have a mixed pedigree of on-premises and cloud and even the occasional foray into mainframes.

I've done a lot of work for startups that may not need a full time infra person to launch yet want to get the foundation solid from the outset. I am good at building novel systems from open source components to meet an organisation’s needs.

I enjoy being on teams with interesting and diverse colleagues and like to think I contribute that back too.

                      Hello!

I'm a senior software engineer with ~19 years of professional experience, specialising in low-level systems programming, embedded, infrastructure, and performance-critical software.

I've worked across kernel-level, embedded, and application layers. I've done everything from small time application work to environments where problems are complex, failure is expensive, and correctness matters.

                      Selected experience:

                      • Built and shipped a Rust-based OpenSSL engine for an HSM as a contractor for Microsoft
                      • Worked on a RISC-V MCU emulator
                      • Bootstrapped a Rust toolchain from mrustc in a production environment
                      • Developed tooling for container image ecosystems, including an image linter
                      • Background in hosting/infrastructure environments
                      • Mentored others in Rust
                      • Former director of a non-profit (team leadership, operations, decision-making)

                      My core skills:

                      • Languages: C, C++, Rust, Python, (plus working JavaScript)
                      • Systems: low-level development, kernel-adjacent work, embedded systems, Linux and POSIX systems
                      • Tooling: ASan, GCC analyser, Coverity, CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
                      • Practises: TDD, custom test harnesses, strong debugging discipline
                      • Areas: concurrency/async systems, network servers, inter-language interop, cryptography, performance optimisation, debugging

What I bring to the table:

                      • Experience: I have worked in all company sizes, from tiny startups to big companies
                      • Deep experience with debugging: I can solve complex, non-obvious failures
                      • Strong systems background: memory, concurrency, and performance are core strengths
                      • Breadth: I can move between low-level and higher-level work as needed
                      • Pragmatism: I focus on shipping reliable, maintainable systems

                      What I'm looking for:

                      • Fully remote if possible
                      • Async-friendly teams (PDT-based)
                      • Open to full-time or contract
                      • Compensation: $135k+ depending on scope
                      • Medium to long-term work preferred, but I'll take what I can get
                      • Preferably but beggars can't be choosers

If you or your company are building infrastructure, systems software, or anything performance-sensitive, I'm likely to be a strong fit 🙂.

I'm currently looking for work. I've been a software developer for 14yrs mainly working in small start-ups that make a webapp product (Ruby, Typescript, React) where I wear a lot of hats (support, devops, development, mentoring, and telling you that all the problems you're having is because your microservice architecture is over-engineered and insecure).
I'd like to work on something actually useful to people and I'd be less concerned about what I'm paid if I did.
Something that I'm less likely to burnout on would be great.

The AI slop phenomenon has really put me off so I've been thinking about changing careers, although I'm not sure what I'd do yet

I work at the intersection of social and technical systems, and specialize in building up people, programs, partnerships, and organizations around open source.

I have a deep track record in complex community relations, am fluent in the nuts and bolts of many technologies, and have spanned governance, org development, nonprofit and people management, comms, marketing, events, and beyond.

I'm interested in having an internship over the summer! I'm experienced in hobby-level Linux system administration and networking, and I have a little bit of professional experience doing programming. Some school coursework I've done has been for C, C++, Java, Assembly, FPGA logic design, and DC/AC circuit theory and design. Online I have credits in various projects such as emulators, ROM hacks, and Linux distributions, as well as my own open-source low-level programming projects.

If anybody knows of any potential remote positions, please let me know!

If anyone is hiring or knows of someone who is hiring remotely in the UK or locally in NI for an astrophysics PhD who is cracking with Python, knows a bit of SQL and cloud computing, is experienced in both data analysis and software development, and is ALSO uncannily quick to learn new things, then hit me up.

                                                  As promised:

I'm a staff-ish level software engineer, fairly deeply involved in the Python community (see @NorthBayPython which I organise, and @ThePSF where I'm a board Director). Things I like: understanding/taking apart/reassembling systems; open source; technology in service of humans. Otherwise not terribly picky :)

Things I'm good at: programming in (other languages acceptable, of course), communicating complicated stuff in conference talks, probably a few things related to that. Ask?

                                                    Some regrettable personal news:

As of ~45 mins ago I am no longer employed. I'm still trying to find my bearings, but would be gateful for whatever leads y'all have.

(I will say more in a bit, once I actually have the time to spare)
