El nuevo Vantage S no grita, susurra: más rápido, más fino, más Aston

I reckon most keen #cyclists of any flavour would enjoy living by a busy #cycle path, or on a street that has cyclists as its predominant traffic.
However car enthusiasts seem not to seek properties directly on major highways so they can enjoy the passing heavy #traffic.
Almost like #cars are horrible if you aren't in them.
I only have one car that is shared between my mom and myself, mostly to reduce overall spending on maintenance, upkeep, insurance, etc.
When I get my next car, I will be letting go of the A4 allroad and won't consider getting a 2nd car. So, reliability is important. I'm willing to give up on some efficient and range if there's a chance of increased reliability and familiarity.
I'm definitely no tech luddite, but I think the invasion of smartphone and look-at-me features in cars is maddening and a real danger to everyone on the road.
If you are wondering what vehicles are on my consideration list:
Most likely to get:
- Toyota bZ Woodland / Subaru Trailseeker (mostly for their more wagon proportions)
- Toyota bZ / Subaru Solterra (depends on the price gap between the Woodland/TS over the regular bZ/Solterra)
Considering, but gotchas:
- Hyundai Ioniq 5 / Kia EV6 (800 volt arch is nice, but given their issues that are still going on with it make it questionable for me)
- Honda Prologue / Acura ZDX (Ultium platform with CarPlay and Android Auto!, but vehicle is too large and clunky)
- Ford Mustang Mach E (Looks nice, I could maybe live with a giant tablet in the center, but those non-standard door handles!)
Pass:
- Anything Rivian (no CarPlay, no Android Auto, no effing way)
- Anything GM (same as Rivian, though there is the Honda Prologue loophole there)
Fuck, no!
- Anything Tesla (Need I say anything?)
Some aren't listed due to cost and/or form factor reasons.
If anyone who personally knew me back around 2009-2017 would know that was really into the Audi community in one way or another. After getting the A4 allroad in 2017, I started to distance myself (part burn out, part losing interest, part losing connections within the community, etc.).
Over the past 3-5 years, I've grown to dislike Audi's direction and the experience of driving and using their newer cars has made me strike them off of the consideration list. They've went hard into "more tech equal more luxury" bullshit and that is absolute bollocks. Mercedes seems to have gone down that route with the EQ vehicles.
Anyway... sorry for the rant, but I had to put some words down on my frustrations with them lately.
5/5?
Speaking of CarPlay (and Android Auto), it takes forever for the car to detect my phone wirelessly, sees that CarPlay is available, then allows me to switch to it. Other than the usual unlock phone thing to allow CarPlay that happens every so often, plugging in my phone and having the allroad detect it is within 5-10 seconds, not 20-30 seconds.
Also, the new system doesn't always automatically switch to CarPlay when it finally gets sorted out.
The sluggish touch interface is all around horrible and finding simple settings was even more difficult. I welcome the new MMI knob overlords to come back!
4/x
In my allroad, I can display the realtime fuel economy widget while being able have other information in the center between the two gauges. With the two gauges size set to small, I have a wide open map that I can use if/when I don't want to fuss with plugging my phone in and waiting for CarPlay to do its thing.
Audi took what was a really good digital cockpit display and seems to have it even less configurable and useful.
3/x
My absolutely gripe about that (other than not being able to quickly see fuel level when I open the door and press the start button) is that the amount of absolutely wasted space that is now the fuel gauge takes up something a chuck of space *above* the tachometer that cannot be used for anything else when I have the tech and speedo shrunken down.
It blocks space for map display, it cannot be configured to show anything else, and there are empty spaces where a more minimal (but still useful) widget could be used for it.
2/x
My 2017 A4 allroad is in for service and got a 2024 A5 Sportback as a service loaner vehicle, which has a newer version of the infotainment system with a touchscreen and a fully digital cockpit display.
My A4 allroad has a digital cockpit display, but has separate LED segments for engine temperature and for fuel gauge.
The newer A4/A5 vehicles ditched those separate LED segment and merged them into the cockpit display.

I had a fun automotive adventure today, a trip to a local pick-a-part in search of a headlamp assembly for my Jaguar. Mission accomplished, as this one had just what I needed and had already had some of the pieces in the way removed.
I always like a visit to the pick-a-part. There’s something satisfying about saving a little piece of a car so that part can hit the road again.

This event was at a sort of shopping centre/bueiness park so there was wrap around car park. Everywhere we wandered, more classics were lurking. Not to mention the constant flow of cars coming and going.
I love when car manufacturers do “the little things” on the inside. In this case, it’s VW and the interior is full of these sorts of things.
In this case, it’s a set of small foldable frames hidden in the side walls of the boot that fix by Velcro to the floor for things like this that would otherwise roll about in the boot. Given that I take Dexter the dog with me whenever I can, I always carry a big bottle of water in the boot for him- which always needed a little creativity to secure properly. Not anymore!
(I know VW aren’t the only ones doing this, a few others are doing a similar thing now)
There was an excellent mix of young and old, and makes from all over.
You may notice some cars you've seen before in my threads, other regulars to cars & coffee.
Cars just kept on pouring in in all directions. So I went for a wander to try snap all the interesting ones.
We got there early and drove up the kerb onto the grass, thinking other utes could join us but apparently they were too scared of the dirt.
Took Harry to a cars & coffee in Preston in late May. Hosted by a car storage business, we had never been to one of their c & c's before. Staggered at the crowd and massive number of cars.
A long thread, it was huge! 🧵
We followed fellow classics to the venue.
Another view of those lovely MG T-Series cars on Sunday. Starting from the ash green beauty in the front they are a: MG TD, MG TC, MG TD, MG YT, and MG TD.
