Heads up to anyone looking for used #cars in #Europe - many #Vauxhall / #Opel have active recall due to a dodgy #airbag - I'm currently searching for a car for a relative and two that turned up on various online private sales and had outstanding recall notice. (this doesn't happen with dealers, as its illegal for dealers to sell a car with outstanding safety recall)

I suspect #Stellantis dealers are taking so long to fix these (especially ex the #GM models, which are getting much less support than those post-takeover) that folk are simply selling their #cars rather than book them in to be fixed..

I very much doubt he paid £94 000 for this (otherwise fairly ordinary) #Volkswagen #Golf - it would have been what it might have cost the original owner in #Singapore to keep it (including the COE - in SG you need a extra certificate to have any kind of #car and that isn't cheap), hence why it got exported to Blighty (if it has a UK 14 plate it is from 2014)

Its not a bad car to be fair, high feature spec and #DSG gearbox and likely well maintained, only disadvantage is the clocks will be in km/h (this doesn't affect getting MOT here, and you can set at least the digital display to show MPH)

Buffed out gnarly scratches on 2006 #Vauxhall / #Opel #CorsaC (#Holden #Barina for those in Australia) using mini 12 cordless rotary #polisher, using combination of 30mm microfibre pad / heavy compound + 30mm wool pad and medium compound.

Always a bit nervous about a rotary but this smol one seems aggressive enough when used on higher speeds but not excessively heavy on 20 year old clearcoat (I checked before and after with paint depth gauge and it isn't taking off loads)

Some scratches are quite deep and couldn't be entirely removed, but they are way harder to see now especially from 1 metre distance

This 2007 Pontiac Solstice spent 17 years with its most recent registered owner, who placed the car into a storage unit circa 2019. It was removed from storage by the selling dealer earlier this year, and it now has 18k miles. It is powered by a 2.4-liter Ecotec inline-four linked with a five-speed manual transmission, and it is finished in Mean Yellow over Ebony leather. Aww. I loved my stick shift Toyota MR2 (except on the hills in San Francisco), which I drove for over 280,000 miles. My hybrid Prius is more practical and much better for the environment but nowhere near as much fun.

(Yes, I know how bad cars are for global warming. I can still feel sentimental about my 1992 MR2, bought when such things weren't on my radar, even though I wouldn't buy such a car today.)

Both #Corsa (one of my work colleagues is using it from tomorrow) and #GolfGTI got a catwash using Carpro ECH2O rinseless wash ( hosepipe / pressure washer is currently verboten in Anglian Water region)

Tested Menzerna compounds and different pads on bonnet of Corsa (it gets used as a project car as I refine my #polishing skills, don't have to worry about burning clearcoat as much - its already knackered in parts although I have managed not to do that and hide a few more scratches)

GTI got a layer of #Sonax AutoHart wax (paint could do with some correction on non recently repainted side but I didn't have spoons today, there's hard limit to how much buffing I can do in one session)

At least only around 22°C today (otherwise #detailing is not fun as products dry too quick) #cars
