Brands of #MotorOil popular in #Britain in 1978 (from "On The Road" partwork about #CarMaintenance)

The containers are 0,5 , 1 and 5 litre, by 1978 they had to be sold in #metric quantities by law. Screw top containers were less common, probably because #oil consumption was relatively high in those #oldtimers so it wasn't unusual to have to top up with an entire half litre every so often!

Many of these brands are still around today... Curiously Millers isn't present but back then appeared to have been concentrating on lubricants for commercial vehicles, industrial plant and customers who by bulk, although I saw folk on oldtimer forums mention a fair few litres of Millers got diverted from BREL (British Rail Engineering Limited) and ended up in workers #cars 😁

That’s 94,086 BEVs, up 79.5% from 52,425 a year earlier. Pure combustion #cars made up just 24.5% of new registrations, 12.5 points less than BEVs alone. The rear diff swap is a success!

I got everything done within the span of about six hours today, and I just spent the past couple hours driving around town for a test drive while getting around to adjusting the headlights, too.

The drivetrain definitely feels tight again, first of. The lash spec for the main gear is 6-10 thousandth, and this one ended up right in the sweet spot at 8. Can't ask for any better than that!

Also, this Eaton Truetrac limited slip diff I picked out is proving to be exactly what I wanted. The truck behaves like normal on the road, acting as if it has an open diff when at speed. Yet at intersections there'd be those times I'd lose traction taking off from a dead stop due to hitting a patch of sand or loose gravel.

With the new diff the truck continues to accelerate through said intersection when the drive wheel spins out now, the other one kicking in long enough to push the truck through the intersection and make the turn safely.

After driving this truck for 14 years with an open diff, all those times I nearly wiped out when merging into traffic, I'm honestly rather relieved with the end result of my efforts. This truck is definitely safer to drive, and I'd feel much more comfortable driving it in snow if the need ever arises.
