Why, when I change the temperature on the thermostat of my Renault Zoe does it change the fan direction, too? Is this a UI affordance for people who want their faces colder but their feet warmer? I don't understand!

Via: 🔗 danq.me/2026/05/10/car-climate

Alt...A white hand turns the thermostat knob in a car from 19℃ to 20℃ in 0.5℃ increments; the untouched nearby fan direction control seems to change of its own accord. Initially blowing towards the user's face it switches on 'towards feet' at 19.5℃ and switches off 'towards face' at 20℃, and reverses the process when the temperature is turned down again.

    🚨ADORABLE CAR ALERT 🚨

    1960 Daimler SP250. 55,000 miles indicated. Current bid: US$17,000.

    bringatrailer.com/listing/1960

This 1960 Daimler SP250 is said to have been acquired by the seller’s father in the mid-1960s and modified with a revised grille opening before being sidelined by a broken windshield towards the end of the decade. Chassis 100139 was later passed to the seller in the 1980s and remained off the road until a refurbishment was completed by British Auto Works of North Plains, Oregon, from 2015 to 2019. Work involved repairing and repainting the fiberglass body in Rioja Red, installing a beige soft top, re-trimming the interior in beige vinyl upholstery, rebuilding the 2.5-liter V8, retrofitting a Toyota five-speed manual gearbox, and more as detailed below. The car rides on 15″ Dayton knock-off wire wheels and is equipped with rack-and-pinion steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes. Inside, MGB–sourced front bucket seats are accompanied by a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a custom wood dashboard. Further details include dual SU carburetors, a PerTronix ignition, and a stainless-steel exhaust system.

                >> At the heart of the problem, some transport researchers and campaigners say, is that measures that restrict motorists are portrayed as an attack on civil liberties and lower-income households – while the costs of car culture are ignored outright.

“If someone buys a new SUV and puts it on the street, the space is gone,” Schüle said. “We don’t have a problem as a society with putting that private property in the public space – that’s completely OK and accepted. But the moment someone explicitly says ‘hey, we’d like to build a cycle path here’, the uproar is huge.” <<

just remembered how last year a work colleague in needed two new on the fleet car she was using - I recommended the tyre garage near the library and the second hand bookshop as it was part of same group (Hadleigh Tyres) I'd used for last 6 years with good results.

She got the tyres, and submitted invoice for the expense claim. I was initially a bit confused, as the address given was 200 metres away from where I remember the tyre garage being.

Turns out that Hadleigh Tyres do indeed have *two* branches in Felixstowe, not at all far away from one another and *both* are busy and doing well (an indictment on the state of the roads in that town)

A while back an activist on here (alas, their toot disappeared in timeline) was trying to work out how many people in UK regularly - it is hard to get accurate data!

There are about 34 million private in UK of 42 million including , , , and anything else that needs registration mark from GB or NI

About 43 million people in GB (excluding NI) hold a full - but not reliable data for number of drivers as these records include people who have died or emigrated!

And some folk own more than one , others have a licence but don't drive - I'd guess at figure for private car drivers being around 25-30 million, but levels of will vary wildly between regions

                                              IVE -- Gaeul

I wish we could reduce the number of automobiles on the planet, but I also wish that amongst those that remain would be a sizeable number of smallish saloons in pretty colours like this pink.

I love the way Gaeul's outfit is colour coordinated with the car.

A young woman with long black hair poses next to a light pink vintage car in front of a highly textured, distressed pink wall. She is wearing a light pink dress over a white long-sleeved top, light pink tights, and white sneakers. The car features round headlights, a white bumper, and a license plate with the numbers "26-037". The word "KNIGHT" is written vertically in white on the left side of the image. The scene is lit with pink-toned light, and the car's windshield shows a bright cyan reflection.

Autel make a whole load of of , same as Topdon, Launch, and all the other similar companies.

Some of these can programme key fobs but are not usable alone to steal - and have legitimate uses.

Same as its perfectly legal to keep an extendable wheel brace in your car, but definitely not to clout another driver with it in a road rage incident..

It's surprisingly hard to find out what percentage of the total UK population drives.

I keep finding data that breaks it down by household or only covers working people.

It feels very biased to look at it this way - it give much higher percentage of car access than I think is even possible given that not everyone is allowed to drive.

Is it just me - or is this a bias in the stats ?
