For those at #EMFCamp playing duckfriends.online and wanting a perfect score - the duck by @nullsector (aptly named Duckerberg) got depolerised by some of the old @polybio tech and wasn't behaving himself.

I have subjected him to a swift reprogramming and he's now back online - albeit looking a little more borg than before.

It has taken a while to be assembled by the team but the #HitchinHackspace #GameBoy #Monumemtal has been assembled, raised in to position and is up and running at #EMFCamp.
As it isn't waterproof it is currently cosseted beneath a purple gazebo.

Do come along and have a game 🙂

The Hitchin Hackspace Gameboy Monumental is on site at #EMFCamp at last. We didn't quite get it ready in time for the previous event. The picture shows a massive Gameboy which appears to be partially buried, at a tilt to the right, in to the ground. One of the two round buttons on the front of the console is "buried". In front of the console is a music stand, the top of which has been replaced by a pair of 3d printed cupped hands which act as a receptacle or holder for the remote controller for the console. The console is 2.5-3m tall on the screen a game of Tetris is in progress. To the left in the foreground Hitchin Hackspace member Rich stands with his back to the camera. Unseen his hands hold the controller as he plays the game.

It's not surprising that a lot of people have chosen to batten down the hatches and lock down their websites to deter scrapers and the robber barons of genAI digital enclosure, but paradoxically this can make it even harder to find the quality content online. Fortunately there is a wealth of Low Background Information out there that existed before the resistible rise of the chatterbots. Laser rot notwithstanding, there are the venerable discs of the BBC Domesday Project, which crowdsourced information about the UK from around a million children at 10,000 schools in the early 1980s. We also have the likes of Project Gutenberg's curated library of post-copyright literature, the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, the CLOCKSS digital preservation network for research outputs, and the Kiwix project's offline version of Wikipedia. This talk will cover the epistemic challenges the Slop Ouroboros creates for the reality-based community, using the totally real and in no way made up EMF Orphan Source Village as an example.
