📮✉️ The other kind of stamps!

We have a fully functional postal service called Sneakernet running at EMF. If you want to send someone a missive, just drop it into one of our on-site postboxes or larger items to the info tent, and it will be delivered by human volunteers.

It’s kind of a puzzle game too, as you have to be inventive with on-site addresses.

We also deliver actual proper post if you put a Royal Mail stamp on it (available from the shop, or bring your own), with a small delay.

You can even deliver to other hacker camps or to a future EMF.

🌳 Behold the Entrance Tree

Some say we travelled back in time to make sure there would be shade at the entrance. Soon there will be the pitter patter of feet and the trundle of wheels as the site starts being assembled around it.

When you arrive, you’ll find an information outpost with a map and a helper right by it, for all your questions once you’ve been wristbanded.

Right now it’s very very quiet.

🪑 Sitting down and hanging out

A bit of comfort planning this morning. In all the talks and workshops there are plastic folding chairs for you to sit on, and in the lounge there are the more squishy variety (possibly beanbags). There’s picnic tables and deckchairs outside the bar too.

If you are likely to want to sit around chatting, or just have a bit of chill time with a good book, it makes sense to bring your own chair.

You may want a silver emergency blanket to peg over your tent to keep it cooler inside, and you will *definitely* want a refillable water bottle (loads of drinking water points around site).

I really like that #emfcamp are so upfront and transparent about their review process.

I submitted a workshop that didn't get selected, which can sometimes sting, but knowing that it was a thorough process, and quite how many submissions they had, helps everyone to manage their feelings well I think.

Or perhaps that's my own autistic viewpoint?! Either way, thank you to the whole team.

Since I'm going to be breaking out the air mattress so I can kip downstairs where it is cooler this week, I began to wonder what other things I should do for the full EMF-at-home experience.

- put my router in a Playmobil datenklo
- ask next door to play Amsterdam trance from 7am
- park my car five streets away
- ask the other next door to converse in German

Whether you’re a regular or irregular medication taker (eg hayfever), check now to see if you have enough supplies to get you through your stay at EMF.

We have a fridge for any temperature-sensitive meds and space to freeze ice packs.

Some medicines are also photosensitising and make you more susceptible to sunburn so don’t forget your factor 50/hat /parasol if yours is one.

⛺️ How long can I stay?

Our gates open at 10am Thursday (maybe slight delay if we need to get a telehandler out of the way) and there will be stuff to see and do from then on.

There is content on until late Sunday, so we are cool with Monday lunch (at midday), and then we start moving Big Things around the site and the whole slick operation of returning everything to the hire places begins so you probably want to be in Big Tesco’s having a fry up on your way home by then.
